Great old Platformers did not have to use the over the shoulder crap till RE4 came around. Instead it was usually a aiming reticle above the character.

Well, when I play older games such as MGS1 and MGS2 which are third person and they rely on first person shooting or basically you fire your weapon totally unaimed, when it came to MSG4 and the over the shoulder shooting I was so relieved because for me it works best.
