Try and remove/rename the amnesia folder in Documents/, incase you have some faulty settings file or similar. If you had the game and in the past installed mods or total conversions, might be that even if you reinstall the game there are mod/tc files left. So after a removal of the game, check so that the game folder has been completely removed before installing again.
Ah yes, when you mention that, it IS slightly off topic, but often when Amnesia crashes (on Windows only), the gamma setting overwrites the color correction of Windows. As in, the gamma the game was running in before the crash is still applied after the crash, and restarting the game and closing it normally doesn't reset it, at least in my experience. Just wanted to point that out in case it isn't known.
Did the game use to work properly before the update? Are you sure you didn't change anything at your computer (installed programs, altered settings etc) since the last time it worked?

Before the update the game ran fine. I might have updated my graphics card before the update but I don't think it's causing the game to crash.

Still didn't work. But after moving the msvcp71.dll and msvcr.71.dll the Blackbox didn't show up, instead said "Amnesia.exe has stopped working". Does that mean anything?
