RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread
I think we're not sure yet what the name means.
"Veni, vidi, vici."
"I came, I saw, I conquered."

It could mean Body (Σώμα in Greek) since from pics & teaser I can see the game has a lot to do with brains, AI and stuff.
This is speculation, we don't know yet and I suspect we won't until we actually finish playing it.

We looked at a whole bunch of possibilities of what SOMA could mean.
A while back in this thread I looked up a wikipedia article about a buddist ritual herb called SOMA as an possible idea for the name.

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread
I have another theory about the word SOMA. Soma is a chemical used in "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley.
"Soma is an allusion to a ritualistic drink of the same name consumed by ancient Indo-Aryans. In the book, soma is a hallucinogen that takes users on enjoyable, hangover-free "holidays"."

At the game description it says:
Quote:The radio has gone silent on PATHOS-2. As isolation bears down on the staff of the remote research facility, strange things are happening.
"Pathos" is the greek word for "passion". That's why I said the above, I have seen so far two words that could be coming from Greek. Coincidence? Maybe. I'm just fortifying my case/opinion.

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread
I agree with plutomaniac. I doubt that the greek words are a coincidence, but of course we can't be sure.

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread
Mmm, I doubt it will have anything more other than names of places etc Greek-related but who knows. Either way, unless something terrible happens (which I doubt), I'll enjoy the game!

Wonder if the main villain is named after a Greek god?
