RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread

Wow, that's a shock. I just finished replaying it and it really felt there was a lot added. I mean, from the furniture which all looked new, to all the Machinery of each level and all the added sound effects to accompany it all.
I wasn't a fan of TCR "locking/blocking" a lot of things like furniture and doors. But in retrospect I understand why they did it, since they wanted to create something that felt like a huge vast processing plant and therefore such a place needs a lot of doors and gates, and to have them all accessible to the player would have made the game world humongous.

Glad to see so far that in SOMA there appears to be similar design from TDD where you won't run into arbitrary locked doors blocking your way (ie. they're locked for reason and not just to "stop" the player from going places).

And again, that size comparison shows how big SOMA is. Pretty amazing work!

That might be correct, but the Overture installer is smaller.
I don't have Overture on Steam, I have the retail CD with the setup.exe on it and it's just 350 MB. Included multilingual voice synchro!

You are absolutely correct Googolplex. Compressed size was always what was discussed and you joined in with the correct compressed sizes of the old games for comparison. Steam uses compressed files, and the unpacks them after download.

So the nice thing to take from this debate: Amnesia ≈ 1GB compressed, SOMA ≈ 11GB compressed. The sound folder alone is larger in SOMA than the whole game folder of Amnesia. There is quite a lot more stuff in SOMA compared to anything we released before!
Not to mention Steam, uses gzip compression for its download streams by default.
I assume unpacked SOMA (pure game cache on disk) will be around 20GB?

Anxiously checking the Steam store everyday for SOMA...

The only other thing I noted is Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs not being in the search results.

Guys, how much do you think the game will cost? I wonder if my 30 euro that I keep secretly on my steam particularly for SOMA will suffice.
