RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread

Quote: I would be very surprised if SOMA actually/truthfully requires more than ~3GB of memory and thus realistically a x64 operating system.
Actually it does! The game worked for 32 bit for the longest time, and then suddenly we started having weird crashes, which was because the RAM address space ran out. Some maps are quite big, and we just had to go 64 bit in the end.

So what you all are saying is that I just need 64 BIT to run this thing?

64-bit is the new thing ya know. To be honest, I wanted MS to just not release a x86 version of Windows 10 so we could finally get rid of such lower systems. They recommend getting a new PC if you have one with an older OS than 7, but they didn't say anything about architecture. With 3.7 GB of RAM, you can barely run the system and actually use it for something enjoyable. Had they just killed it off, we'd be one step closer to the future.

It's 2015, even low-end, cheap laptops come in 64-bit now. I haven't seen much of 32-bit on the market in years. Do yourself a favor and upgrade.

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread

This may have been asked before or may be a silly question for this game, but is there/will there be 4K support?
I'd love to run this game on my 4K TV. I mean running it at 1080p will be sweet enough, but a man can dream, can't he?

Ah I see, I stand corrected then.

Thing is, there is a Windows restriction as well on how much memory can be allocated per application at maximum. For x86 applications it's 2GB. So, I suppose SOMA's executable is x64 only and cannot be run on x86 machines in order to avoid such crashes.

That's probably way more likely.

Like I mentioned before. If AAMFP had it, then this most certainly will.
