Data will not save

haha, ok, so i had my friend zip the amnesia folder that was supposed to show up in my documents but now all his game info is on mine and my game is still not saving.

I'm having the exact same problem as JB. Installed gave via steam, went through all the steps mentioned in this thread and the problem persists.

Has anyone come up with a solution? I think there is something wrong with the game downloaded from steam. As JB pointed out, one can import other save files, but the game is incapable of creating its own.

Running Vistax64, if that makes a difference.

Most likely there is a permission problem that keeps the game from being able to write into the folders, only read the contest of it. Maybe if you manually add write permissions for your user you could work around the issue.

This is just an idea that occurred to me. I can't really say if this will help or not, but what have you got to lose?

Is User Account Control turned on? Certain games will not be able to save if it is, because it will deny permission. Vista is notorious for this, Windows 7 less so, but I'd check and see. For some reason, some people can have it turned on and have no trouble, others can't do anything until they turn it off.

I actually didn't think of disabling UAC, its never given me trouble before but I tried it anyways... Unfortunately, no results!

I ran the .exe (as an admin) from the steamapps folder again and this yielded no results either.

We know that the game is looking at the right folder. It can recognize a new folder under main as a profile, but it refuses to save any data even if the profile folder is created manually.

I'm definitely stumped on this one. Thanks for the quick replies.

@ jens: this is the only user account on the system, all privileges are enabled. read, write, etc.

i did the same thing as bigjt and it didnt work for me either :\

amnesia, so far, is the only game that hasn't worked for me on steam.

Try to login into Administrator account. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL on login screen and choose administrator account, and try there. If it works, then your account is screwed, same thing happened to me while I was trying to play BioShock, and I was screwing with the settings myself, I did something wrong.

Fresh install, and voilà!

i pressed ctrl+alt+del but there is no administrator account. i clicked switch user and it's not there either.
