In Silent Hill, like in Amnesia, mainly the atmosphere is the horror, and you can't shoot down the atmosphere!
I agree, gameplay is surely not designed for fun in Silent Hill... Mainly because the whole movement and camera system sucks enormously
But before I get savagely torn to shreds by rabid SH fans, let me explain that that statement is in fact almost a compliment. Because the story and atmosphere -especially of SH2 - are so incredibly good that even the shitty gameplay can't ruin the game.
Quote: I would like a remake of the original silent hill because let's face it,those graphics didn't age well, I can't even see what the monsters are supposed to look like from time to time, and everyone's faces are molding which looks freaky as hell.
Just imagine: If there was a remake of Silent Hill in HPL2...with first person view and without combat... that game would probably be able to make my heart stop!
But after some long consideration, I have come to the conclusion that even though I would love to play Silent Hill in first person (because, did I already mention that the camera is horrible? ^^), that would actually not fit the game.
SH is not about roleplaying as a character, it is about witnessing a character's fate. Just think of my favourite, SH2's story - it just wouldn't work if the player was to roleplay as James. You can't force a player to care for a character (Jame's wife in this case), especially if he has never seen that person. You
can however make him believe that a person he sees on the screen cares about another, yet unknown person.
Soooo... I respect that design decision.
And why did I ramble about all this? I have no idea to be honest. -.-
