Computer shuts down after some minutes

It could be that then. In general immediate shut downs are caused by:

1) CPU reaching TJMax
2) PSU Malfunctioning

Do you have another psu to test? Also, if your i5 has Intel HD graphics you could remove your dedicated graphics card, connect the monitor to the intel hd graphics and check it it shuts down under gaming. The graphics card is the most power hungry thing in there so if you remove it and it does not shut down, we know that the power supply is not good enough.

I have no i5, I have a Q9550 ;-)
And no other PSU, except an older 420W, but that should be even weaker.

Oh yes, right. What motherboard do you have? It might have integrated graphics. Lots of LGA775 motherboards had. Otherwise, maybe you have a lower end graphics card that draws less power or something?

I have an ASUS P5N-D mainboard for socket LGA775.
Hmm... I'll check if I have integrated graphics, but I'm sure it's not powerful enough to start a game.

No it does not have any. Do you have any older lower-end graphics card?

Not for PCIe. Just my older GTX 275, but it had the same problem and also needs even more power than the GTX 560 Ti.

Ah... wait, I have a GeForce 6600 GT for PCIe.

That should do it. Try it. You may have to install older drivers for it to work though. What operating system do you have? Also x86 or x64?

I have Win7 x64, yes I need the old driver 307.83.
But when it's working we can be sure the PSU is too weak?

Because I don't believe it's the graphics card itself.
And what is if I even couldn't run games like The Witcher 2 etc. with the 6600 GT?

The only reason I said to try it, is to make sure that the problem is the psu. I don't believe the gpu causes the problem. The power supply cannot support the load. You won't play newer games with such a graphics card. Try any game and see if the problem occurs again.

But when I reduce graphics quality and resolution, the PC still goes off.
I don't believe that the graphics card load max power when I play on 1280x720 and with low details.

The other phenomenon is, that I can play Amnesia TDD on max graphics without any issues. Some other games also. But most new games not, even Dear Esther kills my PC.
