I can't do squat with this game. I've tried every trick in the book mentioned here and still no luck. The only thing that mildly increased my peformance was turning off my extra monitor and leaving it as a single display, and then I went from really really laggy to just really laggy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to play the games I bought since I hear such great things. Smile

-------------------------

What I had done on my last attempt to get the game running:

- Turned off/unattached my 2nd Monitor.
- Turned off Thread Optimization under my nVidia settings.
- Made sure Anti-Alias, Vsync, and other suggested things were not on by default.
- CTRL+ALT+DEL and set Penumbra as a high priority task.

Also, just as an FYI, I'm playing this through Steam. Tried a non-Steam version and it does the exact same thing. Sad

I don't know nvidia so I can't tell just from looking at the driver number, but it's the latest yes? Maybe Re install openAL as a long shot. Could also verify steam cache (right click penumbra > local files >verify integrity of local files) but since it still happened on a non steam version that probably wont help.

Verified Cache, didn't help.

How do I go about easily reinstalling OpenAL? Just uninstall and reinstall?

The drivers are the latest to my knowledge, or at the very least only a few months or so old if they are out of date.

I just updated my drivers to version 270... this wouldn't have anything to do with the following issue:

http://support.frictionalgames.com/entry/61/

Would it? It says something about 92 version of driver stuff, and granted 270 is ahead of that but... would it still be conflicting after all this time still?

My problem then is simply that my Graphics Card isn't supported by any Nvidia drivers lower than version 93.7 (not even sure if it's supported by 93.7.) On the bright side I can play it, so far, without any problems on my fiancee's computer. I think she has an ATI card, I could be wrong, it's nothing too special though.

to "re"install openAL just run the installer again. Really really long shot though.

Have you tried to reboot the computer? If you had it running for a long time and only used sleep/hibernation, a reboot could speed things up.
