Hello, today I have bought and installed the game but as soon as I start playing (I mean after menus) graphics are weird, yet even inside the game menus and subtitles are fine so it's "just" the 3D part. All other Frictional games i own work perfectly.
I tried to see if the open source drivers are supported but couldn't find any info, the only thing I found was to look in the "Initializing Graphics Module" section of hpl.log and verify that "Version" is at least 3.3 which it is (even tried to remove the shipped sdl2 shared lib, just in case).
Are (or will be in future) open source drivers supported or should I just get ask a steam refund assuming I can't and won't install proprietary drivers?

Opensource drivers might work, but the game has been tested with proprietary drivers and intended to be used with them. Exactly what type of graphics card is it?

My graphic card is an AMD Radeon HD 6970. "Might work" means they're not officially supported?
Anyway I have mesa 10.6.7-1 and libllvm 3.8~svn247576-1 (just updated, but still have the same problems).
This is awkward but I just noticed the screenshots DO NOT resemble what I see on the screen at all...
OK yes a 6970 should run the game. Yes proprietary drivers are what we intended to be use.
The game will probably work on opensource drivers in the future, as they continue development and improve. Amnesia did not work with opensource drivers either originally, that it works now is because opensource drivers improved over the years.

The game works flawlessly so far (though I've just ran around a bit, don't know what lies ahead).
The only issue I've come across is that as frequently reported the gamma adjustment won't work at all.
BTW, the "distorted" look of the loading screen (the very first one, even before the intro) is how it's meant to be?
Gamma, this is a conflict with compiz (or even it is only the combination of compiz+unit that have the issue). If you turn it off before launching game, or use another composition, gamma should work fine. I think I have seen some script sometime on how to automate turning it off, launching game, and back on as you quit the game. Turning of composition should also improve performance in game.

As for the gamma setting, I don't use any form of compositing. Precisely because it causes too many issues with everything. I'm on Ubuntu Mate, which uses Mate DE, a supported and updated version of Gnome 2. And while its WM is capable of compositing, it's switched off.
BTW You might want to clean up SOMA/game/hpl.log )) Just a very minor non-issue.
Hmm, I tested with both Xubuntu (that have composition and I had it active) and gamma was working fine and also with Lubuntu (with no composition) and it was working fine. But when running regular Ubuntu it was not working. But ah, thinking about it the difference is I used a GeForce when it was working and a Radeon when it was not working. So could be specific for radeon cards, but then I am afraid I do not for certain have a clue as to why.

It seems to be so I'm afraid. I've read some reports that gamma was not working also in Penumbra and Amnesia for a guy on a Radeon while someone on Nvidia had no such issues with those titles.
As for me while I've played both, I can't remember if I had this bug, and I think I had a GeForce then. Then again there are two distinct drivers, though the bug might be hitting both.
UPD: the guy actually wrote that gamma wasn't working on both Radeon drivers in Penumbra and Amnesia.
